Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent (Divergent, #1)Divergent by Veronica Roth

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Divergent” by Veronica Roth – after Suzanne Collins’ „The Hunger Games“ now a new dystopian young adult book. But even several noticeable similarities to the aforementioned book couldn’t stop me from devouring this book.
The book tells the story of a society that is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). The amazing thing is that the separation is accepted by the population and everyone who wants to change this is only doing so for the gaining of more power.
But there are also such people who have developed more than one virtue. People like Beatrice, aka Tris, who suddenly sees her life in danger due to the revelation that she can’t be assigned to just one faction .
The character description of Beatrice came as no surprise to me. Like a typical hero of (dystopian) young adult novels she is very strong and has a mind of her own but also has her “weak” moments when she needs her friends. One of these friends makes the book considerably more thrilling – but I don’t want to divulge more on that 😉
Veronica Roth’s debut novel is an intense and compelling book and I am looking forward to the sequel “Insurgent”.
Really interesting was also the fact Summit Entertainment has obtained the film rights months before the book’s release date and I really hope that I’ll have the pleasure of watching a movie worthy of this book.
