New Zealand – Tour

Visiting New Zealand has been a huge dream of mine for years. You can imagine my anticipation as we booked the flights half a year ago. And we finally made it – we really had the opportunity to discover this wonderful country ourselves. Here is our final tour map – it shows all the routes […]

Iceland, France, Berlin and at last Turkey. 2013 has been a been a year rich in variety. As usual I shot a ton of photos. A few of them found their way into my newest gallery “Turkey”. Contrary to my last two vacations we stayed at one place – more precisely “Istanbul”. Mostly visiting countries […]

Last week I had the chance to continue discovering France with a friend. We drove around for one week and took a lot of new photographies. Some of them can now be found in the new France (Bretagne) and France (Normandy) gallery on my Photography-website. You can also have a look of the following map […]

Speedpainting: Thor (The Dark World)

Can’t wait until October when the movie is finally coming out

Speedpainting: Mariko (The Wolverine)

Loved the color scheme of this scene. But it was really strange to paint a face with strong blue colors nonetheless it was also fun to create this special kind of mood. The Wolverine – Mariko

Speedpainting: Little Dorrit

A few weeks ago I stumbled across the British TV mini-series “Little Dorrit”. The 14 episode were fun to watch and Clare Foy was a perfect cast for Dorrit. So here is my newest speedpainting: Little Dorrit (Clare Foy).

New website “Photography by Rea Schmidt”

Finally the official post for my new website Because the photography section of became too vast , I decided to build a new site – only dedicated to this subject. Initially I updated the site frequently but after some time the website became more and more neglected. But with my upcoming Iceland vacation […]

Bachelor Thesis – Character texturing – Part 3

After dealing with cutting the edges, merging vertexes, repositioning body parts, I was really eager to finally start with the more visual pleasing part. A few weeks ago, I had shot a bit over 40 pictures of my brother – whole body photos as well as close-ups from different body parts like the head or […]

Bachelor Thesis – Character texturing – Part 2

Back to Maya, I imported the file and opened the Texture editor. Because I only wanted two textures to deal with, I decided to connect everything again, except the head because of its need for much more details. Moved and scaled into the right position, there were finally three files: Head Body Nails all saved […]

Bachelor Thesis – Character texturing – Part 1

After having finished the model, the most important part in creating a reliable individual began – the texturing. Firstly, I exported my mesh as an .obj file in order to export it afterwards in headus UVLayout. Using the tools of this software, I determined the edges on which I wanted to separate the parts and […]

Speedpainting: William Adama (Battlestar Galactica)

William “Husker” Adama from the new online series Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Working time: 2-3 hours.

Rise – a student game project

So, anyone out there who is up for a new game challenge? Yes? Then let’s play “Rise” created by Deathspike Entertainment. How come, that me out of all people (= the biggest loser ever when it comes to playing games ) posts a game link? Well, it’s because I did help develop it. Last summer […]

Speedpainting: Sybil (Downton Abbey)

Let’s finish my first free weekend in month with a quick speedpainting: Lady Sybil Crawley – Downton Abbey I still can’t believe that they let her really die.

Speedpainting: Lily – Hell on Wheels

Just a quick speedpainting of Lily from the tv show “Hell on Wheels”

Speedpainting: Scandal

A new speedpainting from the thrilling ABC tv show “Scandal”. I’m mostly satisfied with her appearance but absolutely not with his. Nonetheless I’m too annoyed and without enough time to paint him anew. So this has to be the final version.

Bachelor Thesis – Title

Finally, the title outline and abstract of my bachelor thesis have been granted and “already” officially registered. So no going back And here we go – this is the title: Self-Made Motion Capturing – Comparing current Motion Capture methods using Kinect and Optical Motion Capture Systems

Bachelor Thesis – Character modeling – Part 3

It’s been a while since I updated my bachelor thesis status. The reason was a two and half week journey to the south west of the USA – which by the way was an absolute fabulous vacation (curious? -you can see a few photographs here). But back to work. My deadline (in September) is approaching […]

Bachelor Thesis – Character modeling – Part 2

I have always known that it is very important to keep a special number of sides for each polygon, which should then be respected during the whole modeling process. As far as I know, three sided edges are suggestive for games because every object can be split into triangles. But as a Maya-user and, for […]

Bachelor Thesis – Character modeling – Part 1

Hey guys, finally I’m slowly approaching the end of my media computer science studies. But in order to graduate I still have do my bachelor thesis. While I’m still discussing the main content with my professor (when the topic is clearly defined I will post it here) – one part I already know for sure: […]

Jon Snow – Game of Thrones

Working time: 50 minutes

Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke

Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke My rating: 4 of 5 stars “He felt no regrets as the work of a lifetime was swept away. He had labored to take man to the stars, and, in the moment of success, the stars — the aloof, indifferent stars — had come to him.” Having grown up […]

Speedmodeling: Genie (Aladdin)

Aladdins Lamp – the CG Talk speedmodeling challenge of this month. The Genie is modeled in Maya 2012. Then I painted the background with Photoshop. Working time: 5 hours

Speedpainting: Mary & Matthew (Downton Abbey)

Despite the fact that since the Christmas special there is a more defining scene for Matthew and Mary and their relationship, I really love this dance scene and its mood. I painted the picture over the course of two nights – which is far too much time for a student suffering from examination stress, but […]

Speedpainting: August Rush

“The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen.” [August Rush] Some movies have a special kind of magic. And this one caught me completely with it. Despite the fact that the story appears a little bit too unrealistic I loved the scenes where August Rush (Freddie Highmore) plays his music. […]

The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder

The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder My rating: 4 of 5 stars I picked the book because of its promising summary and was slightly astonished to find the whole book versified. It took me a few pages to find the rhythm of the writing, but after that, it was a very interesting experience. From time […]

Speedmodeling: Lamp

1 hour for modeling 45 minutes for lighting and 30 minutes for rendering and postproduction I used my graphic tablet for the pattern which was a quick and easy way to model the lamp.

Speedmodeling: High heel

Finally a Maya post again. And another entry for the CG Talk Forum. It took me approximately three hours for modeling, shading and rendering.
